Akwaba/Welcome to the website for the Association for Black Social Workers Website.
Mission Statement
The Association of Black Social Workers, comprised of people of African Ancestry, is committed to enhancing
the quality of life and empowering people of African Ancestry through advocacy, human services and research.
We are a professional organization dedicated to the upliftment of social
workers of African decent who primarily work or live in the Metropolitan DC Area. We have important values and
ideas, things we care about and want to share as it relates to the African American population. We feel our ideas can even
change the world, and we want to let other people know how they can join in and make all our lives better.
Vision Statement
The National Association of Black Social Workers will work
to create a world in which people of African ancestry will live free from racial domination, economic exploitation, and cultural
oppression. NABSW will continue to leverage it's collective expertise to strategically develop the capacity of people
of African ancestry to sustain and flourish. Our vision is guided by the principles of Nguzo Saba, which are Unity,
Self-Determination, Collective Work, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith; and the principles of Maat, which
are Righteousness, Truth, Justice, Order, Reciprocity, Balance and Harmony.
